This is the first post at this blog. This is my first real blog. I want this blog to be about what I’ve heard called “radical marching bands” and “radical street bands” and “protest brass bands”, and more generally the role of music in social movements and social movements in music. I’ve been playing in a radical marching band, on and off, for about 8 years, and so I like to think I know a little whereof I speak.
Thank you for reading. I love conversating much more than pontificating, and I hope that a general tone of curiosity and exploration will come through in the writing here. If you feel compelled to comment, even better. If you feel moved to respectfully respond to another reader’s comment, we’ll really be on our way. And feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, ideas, et cetera. I wouldn’t be playing the music I do with the band that I do if I wasn’t deeply passionate about building and growing movements for the liberation of all people.
And now. No music or comments / stories.
